Personal Description
I am a native speaker and a qualified and highly experienced teacher of German. I have been teaching German in the Hull area for 25 years, in a local secondary school, at a sixth form college and at the University of Hull, where I taught German to degree students and was also a language adviser. I am now semi-retired and enthusiastic about teaching as a private tutor, especially as I can now devote more time to individual students or small groups.

Teaching Experience
I studied English and French at the University of Osnabrück where I completed my studies with the equivalent of a first class honours degree. I am a PGCE qualified teacher of German and French (PGCE Hull with distinction in theory and practice). I have taught young learners up to GCSE level, adult learners, and students for whom German was part of their BTEC and GNVQ courses. However, my main expertise has been teaching A level German. I am familiar with a variety of exam boards including OCR and AQA and have occasionally tutored students individually and prepared them for their A-level exams. It is this aspect of my work which I am now keen to expand.

Teaching Approach
As an enthusiastic teacher of languages I have learned over many years to adapt my teaching styles to the individual needs and interests of the learner. I use a variety of authentic materials to improve their speaking, reading, writing and listening skills, either for exam preparation or, if needed, practice before going abroad or practice in speaking German. I feel that being a native speaker in a foreign environment is an advantage as I am aware of the challenges faced when learning other languages.
